Album Review

Joe Liggins & His Honeydrippers were known for their gentle jazz/R&B/jump/swing mix, best exemplified by the massive two-part hit, "The Honeydripper," both parts of which are collected here. A mellow, comforting, and easygoing set, this compilation won't disappoint fans already acquainted with Liggins, but probably won't convert newcomers. Key tracks include a fine version of Duke Ellington and Juan Tizol's classic "Caravan," the moody, cinematic "Tanya," a zippy "Sweet Georgia Brown," and the sturdy, solid "Dipper's Blues."
Steve Leggett, Rovi
