This is a perfect LP for collectors for it features the great stride pianist James P.
Johnson as an accompanist. Virtually all of the 18 recordings are obscure with the pianist heard backing such singers as
Lavinia Turner, Sadie Jackson,
Rosa Henderson,
Clara Smith,
Perry Bradford,
Roy Evans,
Chick Bullock,
Clarence Williams (in 1941) and The Great Day New Orleans Singers. The music is not essential (particularly since
Johnson is mostly confined to the background) but veteran collectors of '20s music will love this now-rare LP.
