Album Review

The second volume in Rhino's old school rap series compiles a few more big hits than the first, including Run-D.M.C.'s "It's Like That," Grandmaster Flash's "Scorpio," UTFO's "Roxanne, Roxanne," Whodini's "Five Minutes of Funk," and Kurtis Blow's "Basketball." Consequently, there's less room for obscurities (not necessarily a bad thing for neophytes), but those are selected well, with tracks from Rock Master Scott ("The Roof Is on Fire"), the Boogie Boys ("Fly Girl"), and the Real Roxanne (her self-titled answer track to Roxanne Shanté's "Roxanne's Revenge"). As with the first volume, there's a sense that Rhino concentrated on novelties rather than solid tracks, but a few of these inclusions won't be found easily elsewhere.
