This collection includes over 20 performances of songs penned by legendary pop composer
Jimmy Van Heusen. Most of the included songs were co-written with
Van Heusen's songwriting partner, lyricist
Johnny Burke, as well as with previous partner
Eddie De Lange.
Moonlight Becomes You: Songs of Jimmy Van Heusen compiles the original (mono) recordings of
Van Heusen's biggest hits as performed by some of the biggest names of the time, including "It's the Dreamer in Me" by
Helen Humes with
Harry James and his orchestra; the million-seller "Swinging on a Star," sung by
Bing Crosby in the Academy Award-winning movie Going My Way; "Like Someone in Love," also performed by
Bing Crosby; and "Yah-Ta-Ta, Yah-Ta-Ta (Talk, Talk, Talk)," which finds
Crosby in a duet with
Judy Garland.
Frank Sinatra appears several times, while
Dinah Shore also performs a couple of numbers, including "Personality." Other included performers are such legendary, influential artists as
Fats Waller,
Ella Fitzgerald,
Artie Shaw,
Benny Goodman, and more. Finally,
Van Heusen admirer
Frank Sinatra closes the collection with his performance of "But Beautiful."
