Album Review

WEA International's Faces collection is as consistent as it is diminutive, featuring the obvious classics like "Stay with Me," "Ooh La La," "Miss Judy's Farm," "Bad 'n' Ruin," "Sweet Lady Mary," and "You Can Make Me Dance, Sing or Anything (Even Take the Dog for a Walk...)," but omitting a few key tracks such as "Pool Hall Richard" and "Had Me a Real Good Time." What Essentials does provide is a compact retelling of the story of one of the greatest and sloppiest rock & roll bands to ever slither on-stage. Listeners looking for the whole dinner should pick up the exhaustive four-disc box set Five Guys Walk into a Bar... or Rhino's less imposing Best of Faces: Good Boys When They're Asleep.
