Sixteen-year-old rapper Laquan (b. Kenneth Green), a native of Los Angeles, recorded one intelligent, mature, and musical album, Notes of a Native Son, in 1990. The LP featured a live band and backing singers on every track and was produced by Bell Biv DeVoe collaborators Richard Wolf and Bret Mazur.
